For those mid-size pickup truck buyers that don't want the 2015 GMC Canyon or its more popular brother – the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, with a gasoline-fed engine, look forward to October. That's when the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel will arrive on the market with a 2.8-liter Duramax oil burner.
Mark Williams of PickupTrucks.com was at the 2015 Work Truck Show and, as expected, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel took the limelight. With 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), the 2.8-liter Duramax Diesel four-banger turbocharged engine trumps the 3.6-liter V6 in terms of torque (269 lb-ft / 364 Nm compared to 369 lb-ft / 500 Nm).

Though General Motors is keeping its lips shut on fuel economy figures, we're having this gut feeling the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel will return approximately 34 mpg highway (6.9 l/100 km). In any case, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will lose its fuel economy edge (28 mpg or 8.4/100 km) to the Duramax, even though we're talking about workhorses from two different pickup truck segments.

Expected to be offered as an option on higher trim levels of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, the 2.8-liter Duramax Diesel motor will not be made available for the GMC Canyon according to recent reports and voices in the industry. The mill will be mated as standard to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Price-wise, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel will be top shelf without a shadow of a doubt. That's a bit of a shame for those that just need an honest to God truck without modern amenities like an automatic, leather, touchscreen infotainment and other elements that hiked pickup truck prices in the last 10 years.
