We've already discussed the hefty performance potential of the 2016 Camaro SS on tons of occasions and we're now back on the topic to show you how such a slab of GM fares against a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.
The result of a drag race between the two is obvious, but this is not the point here. Instead, we want to see two things. First of all, we're curious about how much of an advantage the all-wheel-drive brings for the SUV.

Then there are the inevitable effects of the power-to-weight and aerodynamic differences between the two V8 machines - how long will the Jeep be able to hold onto its lead? In what gear will the Camaro be when it overtakes the Mopar man's offroader?

The piece of footage at the bottom of the page offers answers to all these questions and more. We have to explain the two fortunately raced off the streets, having met at an event that allowed them to stretch their mechanical legs on an airfield runway.

The cars engaged in a half-mile drag race involving a standing start, with trap speed being the targeted factor. Nevertheless, while the Camaro managed to hit 137 mph (make that 221 km/h if you're a fan of the metric system), we don't have any info on the Jeep's velocity.

When it comes to the tech details of the vehicles, you should know both the Grand Cherokee SRT and the Chevrolet Camaro SS came in factory stock form. As for the question targeting the Camaro's tranny, this was gifted with the eight-speed automatic. This means that the Chevy was just as easy to launch as the Jeep, while also matching the eight-speed setup of the Grand Cherokee SRT.

And since we're dealing with a pair of naturally aspirated V8s here, the soundtrack of the video is nothing short of spectacular.
