2016 Chevrolet Camaro Spied Near the Nurburgring, Looks Like Bumblebee

Many more or less official reports tell that 2015 will be the last model year of the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. If you bring into the fold the numerous times our carparazzi spotted the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro testing, then that bit of information might prove to be true quite soon.

As soon as next year if our intuition is correct. This latest batch of spy photos are adding fuel to the fire, so it's quite possible for the golden bowtie carmaker to start trickling specifications and official photos of the 2016 Camaro in a few months' time. If you look very closely, it's easy to see that the prototype spied recently is less camo'd than ones spotted before it.

This is why we can tell you that the upcoming Chevy Camaro will be a carbon copy of the Bumblebee from Transformers 4: Age of Exctinction. Just look at the bonnet's shut lines and the power bulge on top of it - there nothing different between that Bumblebee and this prototype 2016 Camaro. Even the lower radiator grille is remarkably similar to Bumblebee's grille.

By the way things are looking, we have a sneaking suspicion that the General Motors design team hired the cheeky Autobot to come up with the styling of the new Camaro. Another visual aspect that's similar to the humanoid robot from planet Cybertron comes in the form of the upper grille, which is long and narrow, with its center dominated by a masked Chevy bowtie badge.

From profile, the 2016 Camaro prototype boasts with more flared wheel arches than the outgoing model, in addition to a lower roof line penned to make the pony car look like a land attack missile. As for the rear end, the only element shared with Bumblebee appears to be the shape of the taillights, while the rest of the rear is what anyone would expect from a Camaro.

Though the design team decided to go for Hollywood-inspired styling cues, the 2016 Chevy Camaro isn't a futuristic bruiser because those iconic Camaro styling cues from the 1960s are still easily identifiable. What about the technical side of the deal? Well, information is extremely scarce at the moment, but we fortunately have a few leads about what to expect from the new pony car from General Motors.

As such, the biggest upgrade will come in the form of the GM Alpha platform that debuted on the 2013 MY Cadillac ATS. Then there's a 2-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that will slot next to reworked versions of the current entry-level V6 and range-topping 6.2-liter vee eight. With the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost around, this mill is expected to churn out close to 310 hp and 320 lb-ft (433 Nm).

Last but not least, the General Motors-developed quick-shifting 8L90 eight-speed automatic is rumored to be offered only with the 6.2L V8, promising faster full-throttle upshifts than the PDK dual-clutch transmission of the Porsche 911 Turbo S.
