The plot is unknown but the stakes are high. Two of the nation’s all-time favorite superhero will duke it out on March 25th next year in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are starring, but there’s one question still left unanswered: what’s the deal with the filings for Krypton and Camaro Krypton?
As discovered by GM Authority, the Detroit giant applied two trademarks with the Patent and Trademark Office earlier this month. Krypton is assigned to “Motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks and vans” while Camaro Krypton is for “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles.”

This Saturday, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is set to debut, with production slated to start in Michigan (yes, Michigan) in the third or fourth quarter of the year. So if the first sixth-gen Camaro vehicles will arrive at dealers late this year or in early 2016 and the Batman v Superman movie premieres in March, guess what is the background story behind those two trademarks?

In Greek, krypton roughly translates “the hidden one.” This noble gas appears whitish when the application comes in the form of a krypton-based bulb. Keep in mind that a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Krypton Edition is a far-fetched work of fiction at the moment. Still, why did General Motors go for Camaro Krypton? The only reference in popular culture of the gas is attributable to the Superman mythos in the guise of Kryptonite.

According to DC Comics, Kryptonite is a radioactive element from Superman’s home planet of Krypton. It’s a given the future hold a big surprise for us Camaro fans and our little speculation may not be all in vain. As a brief reminder, similar speculation got the rumor mill packed when General Motors filed for trademarks such as Trail Boss, CT6, and Cascada, just to name a few of the trademarks turned production vehicles.
