Camaro6 forum member CFTA got a close-up photograph of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro’s headlight cluster and guess what - the LED halo ring seems to have been deleted. If the production-ready sixth-gen will feature the same layout, then prepare to wave goodbye to the hallmark wink of the current ’Maro.
As a brief reminder, the headlight unit that’s featured in the photo gallery below and two more units were listed on eBay by a seller from Ypsilanti, Michigan. Evidence such as the 2016 Camaro program code (A1BC - Alpha, 1st-gen Alpha platform, B for coupe body style, Chevrolet) and the outlandish design suggest that, this headlight is, most likely, an early prototype’s discarded unit.

Compared to the eBay headlight, the high-intensity discharge (HID) unit that CFTA uploaded on Camaro6 misses the projector bulb. Furthermore, electrical juice appears to be limited by a secondary ballast that we did not seen on the headlight housing listed on eBay.

Because the wires for the HID ballast and high beam cutoff shield have been deleted, CFTA wasn’t able to tell if 2014/2015 Chevrolet Camaro RS D3 bulbs with 55W ballasts can be used by this headlight too.

Nevertheless, the forum member mentions that the main plug for the headlight is an 8-pin setup, while the LED daytime running light strip was built by AL in Germany with an Audi-esque attention to detail. CFTA also observed that “two pins in the one corner of the main plug run directly to the LED DRL ballast,” and that “4 or 5 wires run from that to the LED circuit boards (3 of those).”

As you can see in the pic above, one could describe that the LED DRL strip illuminates like a fiber optics cable, with no LED units thoroughly visible to the naked eye. Last but not least, our man found out that “the turn/marker light is lit in the same manner that the current 5th gens are, a bulb in a standard socket goes into the back and rotates to lock it in. The socket lock pattern however is not the same as 14-15 cars.”

If the inevitable happens, will the 2016 Camaro suffer visual-wise without the LED halo ring?
