2016 Camaro SS Gets ECU Tune, Drag Radials from Redline Motorsports One Day After Delivery

Now that the sixth-gen Camaro has been set free into the world, part of the delivered cars have landed inside tuners’ garages. Aftermarket developers are not shy when it comes to massaging the Corvette-borrowed V8 of the Camaro SS, as Redline Motorsport demonstrates.

The tuner took delivery of its 2016 Camaro SS on December 4, with the Chevy already receiving its first mods the following day. Sure, the updates are limited for now, but such a fast pace tells quite a lot about what we’ll receive once everybody recovers after the New Year celebrations.

Redline Motorsport’s Camaro Six, which you can see in the gallery below, received an ECU remap, a set of lighter wheels supplied by Weld Racing, as well as drag radials for those all-important launches.

We were all extremely pleased to see the Camaro putting its 455 hp and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm) of torque to good use in the acceleration tests. The Mustang’s worst nightmare can cover the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in four seconds, while playing the quarter mile game in the low 12-second range.

With the mods mentioned above, expect the Camaro SS to descend into the high 11-second quarter mile range.

As you can imagine, it’s only a matter of time until somebody breaks the 10s barrier in a sixth-gen Camaro. From that point on, the costs will climb to a whole new level and we’ll be glad to return to the topic with fresh news.

Tuners advertising such short childhoods for their brand new slices of America is starting to become a trend. For one thing, this Camaro story only reminds us of the C7 Corvette Z06 that was used for a one-minute burnout as soon as it stepped outside the dealer lot. Oh, and don't imagine the Charger Hellcat is a stranger to such unholy break-in procedures either.
