We're not just saying that because GM gifted its machine with sportscar handling, but also thanks to the aftermarket world's determination to re-establish a balance that sees the stock chassis being fed much more power than intended by the SS badge.
We are now less than two months away from the moment when the first customers received their cars and yet Redline Motorsports has come up with a twin-turbo setup for the Corvette-sourced LT1 under the hood.
The Florida-based tuner has released a dyno run of their TT 2016 Camaro SS, with the muscular sixth-gen delivering no less than 657 hp and 633 lb-ft (Nm).
Since we're talking about the output at the rear wheels, this means their Camaro is already considerably more powerful than a Z06 'Vette, but this doesn't mean they'll stop here.
The specialist, which mounted the turbines below the engine, in order to keep the installation as simple as possible, promises a three-stage setup.
The tuner explains the figures above, which only represent the Stage One upgrade, were achieved using a stock engine and feeding pump gas to the car.
"This is just the beginning to a bigger project underway. Engineered, Designed and Implemented.....Very happy with the results but this was just the first PHASE. These turbos are sized for a bigger build and the fuel system, as expected is maxed. Stayed tuned for more evolution with this new Camaro as Redline digs in even deeper," the aftermarket developer said on its Facebook page.
So yes, ladies and gentlemen, we now have nitrous-fed, supercharged and twin-turbocharged incarnations of the fresh SS. Looks like the tuning market is determined to stay ahead of GM engineers, who are out testing the ZL1 these days.
