The 2016 Callaway Camaro SC610 is the ultimate expression of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro until the debut of the ZL1. The tuning company applied the SC610 package to a white-painted Camaro SS, unveiling the thing last week. Days later, that particular Callaway Camaro SC610 was crashed by a distracted 1932 Ford driver in Fontana.
What started as a high-octane Sunday afternoon at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California, suddenly turned into the worst case scenario for four people. As per the report of LSXtv, the driver of the 1932 Ford was weaving through the staging lanes of the dragway when the door on the driver’s side opened by accident. The door clipped the open door of a Fox Body Mustang and, as the 1932 Ford driver turned to look around, he mistakenly pressed the throttle pedal instead of the brake.

Because of the Ford driver’s confusion, the ’32 pitched sideways straight toward the 2016 Callaway Camaro SC610 and another Ford Mustang. Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfortunately for the Old Lyme-based tuner, the 1932 Ford hit the Camaro hardest. The publication reports that the force of the impact lifted both of the rear tires off the ground. Happily, however, no driver or bystander was injured. Lesson learned - having a driver’s attention drawn away can get messy for everyone within earshot.

It pains me to see the Callaway Camaro SC610 crashed right after it was unveiled in Santa Ana, California, but foolish things happen. For the record, the tuning package costs $16,995 for those who already own a sixth-generation Camaro. For those who don’t, the retail price is $37,295 plus $16,995 for the fixed head coupe. Of course, Callaway Cars can apply the package to the convertible Camaro as well.

Other than the subtle changes brought to the exterior design, Callaway Cars strapped a third-gen TVS2300 supercharger to the 6.2-liter small-block V8. From 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm) in factory tune, the engine leveled up to 610 horsepower and 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) of torque at 4,400 rpm. More information and technical specifications on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SC610 are available in the release below.
