2016 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan Smokes Like a Chimney

With the 2015 Detroit Auto Show nearing towards us, it’s hard to ignore how many new models are to be unveiled at the North American event. One of the biggest highlights set to make its live debut on January 12th comes in the form of the CTS-V uber sedan from Caddy and boy you’re in for a wild ride.

Have a wild stab in the dark on what’s lurking just under that hood vent. Yup, it’s the LT4 small-block V8 from the 2015 Corvette Z06, supercharger and all, albeit with “just” 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft (855 Nm) of twist sent to the rear wheels. In terms of cog-swapping, the 8L90 eight-speed automatic will gladly shift your gears, be it smooth or brutal.

With a quoted 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint of 3.7 seconds, this bad boy will happily brawl with more powerful monsters such as the 707 HP 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. It’s a weapon’s grade machine this, but don’t think for a moment the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V can’t also iron out speed humps.

Talking about ride quality is important, but when you got 640 rampaging ponies at your right foot’s command, this detail fades into the background. A notable strong point of the CTS-V sedan is how the thing sounds. Sorry BMW M5 fans, but this is just the way it is: small-block V8 + blower = eargasm.

Furthermore, the American performance sedan is 4,145 pounds (1,880 kg) heavy, while the F10-gen M5 tips the scales at 4,287 lbs (1,945 kg). Do you remember when Europeans laughed at barn basic American carmakers? Well, the tables have turned. Slated to arrive in US dealerships in the summer of 2015, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is a heavy smoker as well, as you can see in the video below. Those poor tires...
