Slated to make its public debut in April 2015 at the New York Auto Show, after which it will enter production in Detroit late next year, the Cadillac CT6 is a model to look forward to. A number of questions are still unanswered, but some new details emerged.
Up to this point in time, various more or less official sources hinted at a flagship sedan that will take over the Cadillac XTS' duties. Under the skin, General Motors' Omega platform is going to act as the skeleton of the luxobarge that will compete with the likes of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

As a brief reminder, not much is known about the Omega vehicle platform, but the following details are in: rear- or all-wheel drive, tough yet light thanks to advanced aluminum and magnesium alloys, longitudinal engine placement and a similar architecture to the GM Alpha platform of the 2015 Cadillac ATS.

An even more luxurious CT8 is in the making, but until that model will be launched, the CT6 will have to please the most demanding Cadillac customers. In terms of firepower, look forward to 6 and 8 cylinder mills, including a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 coupled to the Hydra-Matic 8L90 8-speed auto. A plug-in hybrid variant has also been confirmed, with "industry-leading fuel economy upwards of 70 mpg equivalent."

Nevertheless, we're looking forward to the new-gen LT5 V8, expected to debut on the 2016 Cadillac CT6 as well. According to insider information sourced by Automobile, the new model will boast with an aluminum body a la Jaguar XJ. The Vsport has also been approved for production according to the same publication, which will be a nice package considering this Caddy will weigh 3,700 to 4,100 lbs (1,678 to 1,860 kilos).
