2016 Cadillac ATS-V Does 13s Quarter Mile and a Laguna Seca Hot Lap

With all the hype created by the Tesla Model P85D and P90D, we kind of forgot about what petrol power can do for the region in your pants that perceives tingling. Up next, we're going to take another quick look at the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V and see if the V still stands for power and performance.

Back when the previous generation CTS-V was launched, the supercharged V8 made short work of the BMW M5 and its naturally aspirated V10. However, Cadillac now has a baby model that's supposed to compete with the likes of the M4.

The ATS-V is powered by a 465 horsepower twin-turbo version of GM's 3.6-liter V6. The official numbers suggest that it will hit 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds and do the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds when fitted with the right tires and the 8-speed automatic.

However, when tested by The Fast Lane Car, the luxury rocket only managed to break into the thirteens. The reason? Besides having a manual, the ATS-V is placed at a disadvantage by the altitude at the Bandimere Speedway. The higher you go, the less air there is for the engine to use.

As a sign of the times we are living, development of the ATS-V performance coupe took place at the German Nurburgring track in Germany. Having completed boot camp training at the Green Hell, it should make short work of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The Cadillac ATS-V is one of 10 contenders competing for the title of 2015 Best Driver's Car. The winner will be announced on Thursday, October 1st, but we already find it to be one of our favorites.

Still, if you have $60,465 to spend on a fast Cadillac, you can also look elsewhere. For example, the Mercedes-AMG C63 can be yours right now (in sedan form) for $66,175. With a bigger engine and a standard automatic, it's going to be faster at the drag strip. And if it's a track car you're after, the lightweight BMW M4 will set you back $64,200.
