Before it makes its much-awaited debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, Cadillac has teased the ATS-V Coupe one last time. The clip depicts a 0 to 138 mph (222 km/h) and back to 0 mph run, but we can’t get over the fact the Caddy did 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 4 seconds. And that's not a joke.
Just look at the velocity figures displayed and the YouTube video’s timing and try to prove us wrong. The only thing that might do that is if Cadillac sped up the footage, but still, how would you react if the official 0 to 60 mph time will prove to be as fast, if not faster than that of the US-spec BMW M4?
As a brief reminder of the Bavarian rocket, the precision machine from Germany is a quick little so-and-so thanks to its twin-turbo 3-liter inline six-cylinder with 425 HP and a hefty 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque sent to the rear wheels via a super fast dual-clutch box. By comparison, the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe uses an Aisin eight-speed automatic.
We know the twin-turbo 3.6L V6 develops roughly 450 horsepower and 445 lb-ft (603 Nm) of twist, but we always had a sneakin’ suspicion the Aisin won’t be on par with the dual-clutch of the M4. To boot, we also expect the 2016 ATS-V Coupe to weigh a little more than its rival. So what the hell happened here?
We don’t mean to speculate gratuitously as some British automotive outfits do ever so often, but one thing is certain though - we will find out how quick the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe is soon enough.
