2016 Buick Verano Teased Ahead of Auto Shanghai World Debut

After General Motors’ Chinese division presented the world with the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and 2016 Buick Excelle GT, time has come for the automaker to get us acquainted with the 2016 Buick Verano. What you can see in the photo above is the first-ever teaser of the GM D2XX-underpinned subcompact sedan.
Slated to be undressed of all its secret at the Auto Shanghai 2015 in a few days' time, the 2016 Buick Verano we’ll get to see live in China won’t differ too much from the soon-to-be-launched US-spec model. As you can see from the teaser pic offered by Buick China, we’re dealing with Opel Astra-inspired tail lamps. Have a guess why they are Astra-styled.

Yep, it’s because the 2016 Buick Verano is the cousin of the upcoming Opel Astra K in sedan format. Rumored to be launched in China sometime in the second half of the current year, the all-new Verano will swap the aging General Motors Delta II platform for an architecture dubbed D2XX/D2UX.

The all-new underpinnings debuted on models such as the China-spec 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and 2016 Buick Excelle GT, joined by the US-spec 2016 Chevy Volt. In the Asian country, Shanghai-GM’s Verano will fill the void between the Excelle GT and Regal. In terms of dimensions, we’re looking at a sedan that measures 4,718 mm / 1,802 mm / 1,466 mm (185.7 in / 70.94 in / 57.71 in) and 2,700 mm (106.2 in) in wheelbase.

Similarly to its platform-sharing brother, the 2016 Buick Verano will reportedly come with a 1.5-liter four-pot with 118 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual or optional automatic. A 1.5-liter turbo engine with 170 horsepower will also be offered alongside a seven-speed DCT box. Lastly, we must tell you that Verano 15S stands for the base powertrain and Verano 20T is the name of the 1.5-liter turbo motor.
