The Buick Cascada is the latest convertible to join the US car market and while it may not be to everyone’s taste, it sure has a decent price tag to begin with: $33,990.
The figure above includes the shipping and destination tax, but it is for the entry-level version alone. Unlike in other cases, the Cascada only comes with one engine so if you want to spend more money, you’ll have to invest in optional features, not addition horsepower.

Speaking of which, the droptop's beating heart is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit making 200 HP and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque of German descent. Since the Buick Cascada is actually an Opel Cascada, that shouldn’t be surprising at all.

Performance isn’t all that neck-breaking either, the car accelerating to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h). However, it’s all done with the top down and that might enhance the experience.

In terms of additional features you can get the Cascada Premium which is $3,000 more and brings 20-inch twin-spoke bi-color finished wheels to the mix, air deflectors for the front and rear seats as well as automatic headlights and the Driver Confidence Package.

This last item might seem like a marketing hoax, but it actually brings forward collision alert, lane departure warning, front and rear park assist as well as rain-sensing wipers.

If you’re not willing to spend that much cash, you can still get plenty of standard kit such as Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment system with navigation and a 7-inch touchscreen along with sport bucket seats, StabiliTrak stability control system, electronic parking brake, fog lights, xenon headlamps, LED taillights and 4G connectivity.

Overall, it’s a nice package but you might want to look at the competition before making a commitment. That’s because the Volkswagen Eos is roughly the same size and costs $31,995. Another rival would be the Audi A3 Cabriolet but, in that case, you’d be moving upmarket and have to pay $36,600 at the very least.
