2016 Bugatti Chiron to Wear a Price Tag in Excess of $2.5 Million

The Bugatti Veyron went out of production this year after a respectable span of a decade in production, and its successor is now in the spotlight, even though it didn’t even reach its final form so far.

All we have to go on are rumors, all sorts of ‘insider info’ and other suppositions, the most recent coming in from the UK, claiming that the starting price of the Chiron will be €2.2 million. That’s over $2.5 million at the current exchange rates and a hefty increase over what the Veyron used to cost when launch. When adjusted for inflation things are not as disparate as they might seem at first but this is still a huge price tag.

Apparently, Volkswagen already showed the car to a highly exclusive crowd at an event held in Molsheim and it seems like the price tag increase over the Veyron has been revealed back there.

Just as it was the case with the predecessor, the Chiron will be available in its most ‘stock’ configuration for that price tag but start adding optional features on it and you’ll soon notice it swell. Special models are also in the pipeline, from roadsters to more powerful monsters, everything is possible. For a price.

According to people that actually attended the event, the Bugatti marketing people have promised a car that will trample over the McLaren P1, LaFerrari, and Porsche 918 Spyder, and it will also be a hybrid. No word on what the take will be compared to the Koenigsegg Regera though… That’s the one car that the Chiron should be aiming at.

At the moment, the rumors claim an output of around 1,500 HP thanks to its W16 engine but further details are missing. That would make the Chiron about 50 percent more powerful than any of its hypercar rivals and on par with the Swede mentioned earlier. Let’s hope this thing will deliver but even if it doesn’t on the performance front, we have a hunch people will still buy all of the 500 units presumed to be built in total.
