As we all know, BMW is preparing to replace the first generation X1 with a completely new model. However, this time the changes will be more than extensive, completely changing the way we see this crossover.
For quite a while now, we knew that the upcoming version will be built on the UKL platform and that it will be migrating to both front-wheel-drive and xDrive versions.

New rendering show up every day but the guys from Autobild.de actually came really close to the way the car will look like when it enters production, according to insider Scott26.

The headlights show an even sleeker design with the same connection to the kidney grilles as we’ve been getting used to. The front bumper too shows massive air intakes at the bottom, similar to the ones found on the new M235i. Apparently the upcoming 5 and 7 Series will be getting the same dynamic sweep of the headlights alongside the new X7 that was just announced.

Next year we’ll be seeing the official BMW car in the flesh, for the first time at the 2015 IAA with a scheduled launch in 2016, using the new B-engine family that will be made up of either 3- or 4-cylinder units making up to and over 300 HP.

As the current trend dictates, a plug-in hybrid eDrive version will also be available, providing the perfect solution for inner city commutes as well as longer trips.

The X1, unlike its other brothers from the X Series, will not be manufactured in the US. Instead, the CUV will be built in Leipzig, Shenyang and the new plant in Brazil. The Chinese market will also get a special edition in the form of an X1L, having a stretched wheelbase for more room.

Hopefully, the interior will also get a completely new look, on par with 2015 and 2016 and even the future, relieving us from the same old look we’ve been getting for the last 10 years. Furthermore, recent rumors also say that the US will only get the xDrive version, FWD models being reserved for other markets, including Europe and Asia.
