As we told you as far back as nearly last year, the current BMW M3 will be getting a facelift at the same time as the F30 3 Series. Don’t expect big changes though because M cars usually don’t get drastically revised over their production span.
The F80 M3 won’t be an exception to the rule and, even though, it will be updated, it will just get a slight redesign of the headlamps and the taillights. How come? Well, it’s all down to family genes.

BMW can’t have the F30 3 Series looking fresher up front and in the back than the M3. That means that when the standard sedan will come out with new headlamps and taillights, the M car has to follow suit.

That’s why we have the rear end of the car covered up with camouflage, trying to keep our prying eyes away from the new design. Don’t get too excited though, the shape will probably be similar, with small alterations for LED lighting.

Under the bonnet, nothing will change, as the officials said over and over again. The S55 3-liter biturbo engine will be kept along, with the same 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque until the car runs out of production.

If you want more grunt, you’ll have to wait for the GTS model to come out, with its water injection cooling system and all. Rumor has it that the power output of the 3-liter plant will go close to the 500 HP mark, and that’s just music to our ears.

The only problem is that the GTS badge will probably be applied to the M4 model only, leaving the M3 out of the equation. Even so, since the two are virtually identical, only the number of doors being different, we’ll be able to get a good idea of what the sedan would be capable of with a more powerful plant.
