The BMW M2 saga continues, this time with a brand new rumor that claims the car will be unveiled in full for the first time on October 14 or 15. The news comes from an unnamed source, via a Facebook post. Kind of shady, right? Well, it coincides with our insider info that claims the production of the new M car will kick off on November 15 and a reveal exactly a month before does seem right.
According to the original poster, his info comes from four different sources which would raise the level of trust of his claims. Furthermore, the timeline he provides later on also seems to match what the Germans would normally do.
Therefore, with a reveal in mid-October and the production kicking off in November, the car could be shown in front of a live audience for the first time in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show or in January at the Detroit Auto Show. After all, BMW does expect big things of the M2 on US soil.
Then, deliveries would first take place in April 2016 leaving us to enjoy this beauty throughout BMW’s Centenary. Other sources have made the same claims and we tend to believe that this will actually be the calendar the Germans will follow.
Moving on to the technical bits, nothing new has surfaced in the last month, the same reworked 3-liter N55 inline 6-cylinder mill is expected to animate the rear axle.
The power output should be around 365 - 370 HP while torque will go up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) with overboost. Those figures, coupled with the low weight of the car, the wider axle, and the improved aerodynamics, this should prove to be a real successor to the still desirable 1M Coupe.
It will also be a sort of swan song for the loved N55 engines that have gained the respect of enthusiasts worldwide for their tuning prowess. As we told you this weekend, the new B58 engines will have a much more limited potential in this regard and that’s also probably why BMW decided to offer the N55 on the M2 instead of the newer plant.
