2016 BMW F87 M2 Out Testing on Public German Roads in Production Guise

Our latest set of spyshots of the new BMW F87 M2 was snapped on the public roads of Germany and they seem to portray a car that is production ready and dressed in white. Judging by the looks of things, we need not worry about the M2, it’s going to be pretty enticing to drive.

What you can notice straight away is the front bumper that is now wider and houses bigger air intakes on the sides to keep things nice and cool with plenty of air going to the engine.

Speaking of which, under the bonnet lies an upgraded version of the N55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that makes around 370 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. This will be a proper swan song for an engine that gave life to plenty of brilliant cars so far.

The mill will be connected to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. That’s a certainty at this point as plenty of cars have been spotted out testing with the super-fast transmission. However, we’re still hoping to see a 6-speed manual version as well as that would be the choice of most enthusiasts.

Other changes compared to the M235i include the wider stance along with wider wheels, new M exhausts and a new diffuser on the rear bumper. As you can see, the rotors are bigger than on the standard 2 Series and they are cross drilled as well.

All in all, this is shaping up to be a great car and we’re hoping it will not be a limited-run version like its predecessor, the 1M Coupe. Either way, it’s going to be a little bundle of fun, with an acceleration time close to 4.4 seconds (0-62 mph) and a weight that is supposed to be under 3,300 lbs (1,500 kg). Production kicks off in November so we’ll get to see it in the metal at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
