As we reported not too long ago, along with the facelifted F30 3 Series, the F80 M3 will also get a really small update this year, starting with the 2016 model year versions. Those changes we suspected would be limited to the taillights but that was just a supposition, to be completely honest.
As it turns out, we were right, as this picture shown below, snapped by an Autogespot photographer seems to suggest. What we can notice is that this M3 prototype is wearing what look like LED lamps round the back, similar to the ones seen on the LCI 3 Series.

That’s as much of an official confirmation as we’re going to get, BMW definitely not being willing to talk about the subject at the moment since it will get customers rather angry. Why? Because the car is basically brand new.

Think of all the people that bought F80 M3s last year and that ordered one at the beginning of this one and are now frustrated because their cars are no longer the most recent version. The LCI will also translate into a serious drop in prices for those looking to sell their cars.

The good news is that the F82 M4 seemingly won’t get the same LED taillights right now. That’s because BMW will wait for the facelift to be applied to the F32 4 Series and only then the M4 could also see a new set of lights. We’re still a long way off though.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how the BMW crowd takes the news and how much will the price hike be, if there will be any. Our guess is that BMW might offer the LED taillights at no extra cost since that would make the M3’s price dangerously close to the M4’s.
