Not even a full week passed since the 1 Series was first spotted and we’re already looking at a new prototype, this time fitted with production headlights. By the looks of things, we should get ready to greet a 2 Series with a sedan body.
That’s because it seems like this particular prototype is wearing lamps extremely similar in shape to those found on the LCI 1 Series we spotted a while back. That car too is rumored to have its front fascia looking dangerously close to the one on the 2 Series.

Apart from the new headlights, the taillights also look different than on the first prototype. Not production ready but different nonetheless. Unfortunately, we can’t make out any kind of detail at the moment and we presume that we still won’t get a better look at them for another couple of weeks.

Up front, the tall bonnet line is rather visible while the roof seems to be sporting a panoramic sunroof. Round the back, the twin tailpipes are to be noted, even though they seem to have a rather small diameter.

And that would make sense, considering the engine line-up the 1 Series Sedan will have. The range will be made up of different output 1.5-liter 3-cylinder plants and 2-liter 4-cylinder units. Power will go from 136 HP to 300 HP on the top of the range models. If the M Division will enter this segment too, expect the power to go up even further, into M2 territory.

In this case though, xDrive will probably be mandatory, unlike the rest of the line-up where all-wheel-drive will be available as an optional feature.

Its natural rivals will be the Audi A3 Sedan and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, both of them front-wheel drive as standard. That means that the 1 Series Sedan will have to become the cheapest model in BMW’s range so optional features will probably be limited as well.

Production should kick-off somewhere in late 2015 and will focus on the same platform as the upcoming F48 X1, the current MINI Hardtop models and the 2 Series Active Tourer, UKL.
