After what seemed like an eternity of scrolling through rumors, sources, and spyshots, the 7 Series is now finally undressing itself in front of us on the floor of the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. We were lucky enough to see it in the metal earlier this year, at a private event but this time, anyone coming to IAA can experience and see for themselves just how much it has evolved.
The G11 model is the new flagship in BMW’s line-up and, to be honest, it deserves the title, at least for now. The engineers made sure to introduce as much tech as possible on the limousine and even if we were to focus on that alone, we’d miss most of what this car has to offer.
Amongst them, we can count the carbon core safety cell, the new CLAR platform the cars are built on as well as laser headlights, gesture control, 3D surround view cameras and so on.
The car is filled with the latest the Germans have to offer. The iDrive system was again reworked and is now featuring touch-sensitive displays for the first time. In the back, the seats are reclining further than ever, there’s a tablet included to allow you to control various functions and the passenger’s seat folds for you to stretch your legs. Everything is then coupled with the best materials the Germans offered on their cars.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, there were three different configurations on the set, all of them showcasing various ways of configuring your limousine.
We were greeted even by an M Sport model even though the engine under the bonnet wouldn’t recommend it as a sporty choice, being a 3-liter diesel and all.
Overall, the 7 Series is definitely aiming for the number one spot in terms of sales once it reaches dealerships later this year. Prices will start at €81,900 in Germany and $81,300 in the US so it may be time to open up a savings account.
