BMW’s 7 Series offering in Turkey now includes a new four-cylinder gasoline turbocharged engine.
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine delivers 258 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and is available for the 730i and its long-wheelbase version, the 730Li.
The new engine offered in the 7 Series range is available only with an eight-speed automatic gearbox supplied by ZF. In the company of its four-cylinder engine, the 730i goes from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 MPH) in 6.3 seconds, Paultan informs.
The top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), the same level as the higher power versions of the car. Compared to the 740i, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is only 0.8 seconds slower.
Regarding fuel economy and emissions, the four-cylinder 7 Series has a 5.8-liter average fuel consumption (40.5 mpg) in the European mixed cycle, while the CO2 emissions are rated at 134 grams/kilometer.
This version of the luxury sedan is not exactly the first 7 Series to be offered with a four-cylinder engine. The same unit has been fitted to the 7 Series on its plug-in hybrid variant, where the resulting car is called 740e/740Le and the internal combustion engine is augmented by an electric motor.
The four-cylinder unit bears the code B48 and is featured both in the BMW and MINI lineups, making it the first engine ever to be featured in a 7 Series and a MINI.
Initially, this engine version was only supposed to be available in China, but it appears that the company’s board has decided to offer it on the Turkish market as well. BMW has not issued a press release referring to the launch of the model.
We do not expect the Germans to offer this version in many other markets, but all bets are off, as companies can change such decisions pretty quickly. There is also a possibility for a three-cylinder engine to find its way under the hood of a 7 Series in the future, but don't expect such a move to happen very soon.
