After we told you that you can’t configure a 2015 F01 7 Series anymore on any of BMW’s websites, the Germans launched the new configurator for the 2016 G11 model and we’ve been all over it for the last hour.
Yes, you can configure your own 7er right now but you should know that if you live in the US there are a couple of restrictions in place. First of all, you only get to pick between two models: the entry-level 740i and the 750i xDrive. That’s right, the 750i is currently offered only with xDrive.

Therefore, if you want a rear-wheel drive BMW 7 Series, you’ll have to settle for the 326 HP 740i. As far as diesels go you can forget about it altogether while the plug-in hybrid is still a couple of weeks away, at the very least.

That being said, there are other options you can’t yet get either. While the rest of the world gets to revel in laser headlights and remote parking using their new key fobs, the US still has to wait a little longer for them to arrive. That’s because these features are illegal at the moment.

The issue with the laser lights has been known for quite some time now, ever since the i8 was launched. Apparently, the US legislation includes those devices to in a medical category and won’t let you use them as headlights. It’s a matter of bureaucracy, really.

As for the remote parking feature that allows you to basically drive your car inside a narrow parking spot using just the key fob, a BMW spokesperson told us at a presentation of the 7er that is because of possible mitigations. Basically, the American lawyers you can hire to sue the Germans if something goes wrong are better than the ones they can hire so they decided to postpone the launch for now.

You can go over $130,000 easily

We, therefore, configured a car and, with most options on it, couldn’t get too far over $130,000 in the end. Of course, that doesn’t include anything from the Individual range but it’s a decent price for a flagship model if you think about it.

We got everything, from the M Sport package to the $250 display key fob and even Alcantara for the roof line. Prices are decent enough on optional features and after witnessing what the Bowers & Wilkins sound system is capable of inside a Volvo XC90, we totally recommend grabbing it at $3,400.

That being said, head on down and configure your own and then let us know how it worked out for you.
