BMW just announced the prices for the 2016 model year 2 Series Coupe models and at first it seems like they went up by a couple hundred dollars on average. For example, the 228i xDrive Coupe will cost $35,845 while at the moment, the pricing starts at $33,900 MSRP.
It seems like a hefty increase but in reality, it’s not. That’s because the Germans decided to offer more kit for this price. Starting with MY2016 cars, the standard equipment on all cars will include the anti-theft alarm system as well as the Sport Line package.

That means even the 228i Coupe and 228i Convertible models will have amenities such as Sport seats, black high-gloss interior trims with oxide silver matte accent, sport kidney grille, black high-gloss in front splitter, chrome accent next to fog light, black high gloss accent in rear bumper, red stitching on the steering wheel and sport instrument cluster. The M Sport suspension that used to be included in the Sport Line package won’t be available for free though.

Other changes include a $200 price cut on the Technology Package with the content remaining the same. The Driver Assistance Plus package will now include Automatic High Beams for free while the Premium Package will no longer include leather upholstery for the 228i Convertible models. Of course, the price went down accordingly. You can now order leather on these cars as a standalone option.

The M235i cars (in both Coupe and Convertible guise) will now have the Premium Package included for free sans the leather. That means you’ll be getting the universal garage-door opener, keyless entry, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors and satellite radio with one year subscription.

Other interesting highlights include the price cut on the USB & Bluetooth plus smartphone integration standalone option that is now $350, the price of Fineline Stream Wood trims and Brushed Aluminum trims has been cut to $350 while the Oyster Sensatec upholstery is available with sport seats.
