2016 BAC Mono Embraces New 2.5-liter Engine, Shows Off in Goodwood

The BAC Mono is probably the most acclaimed adrenaline-pumping track tool out there, and for good reason: it's fast and fun. Extremely fast and fun.

However, we can all agree a good product can be made better if its creators know what they are doing. This applies to the 2016 BAC Mono, as the single-seater received a new engine.

The unit in question is a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder aggregate from Mountune, capable of producing 305 horsepower. That's a visible increase from the Cosworth-imbued, 2.3-liter four-pot banger capable of delivering 'only' 280 horsepower we got used to seeing in the BAC Mono.

Coming back to the new engine, it's worth mentioning it had the chance to prove its game during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the BAC Mono challenged the famous hill climb course.

You see, the asphalt-eater's weight stays the same at 1,280 pounds (580 kg). Therefore, the extra power injection allowed the 2016 BAC Mono to run up the hill in 47.9 seconds.

"It's a very exciting time for the company, with new investment, a new factory and with our entry into new global markets. While we continue to update the Mono, the purity and clarity of the original design created by company founders Ian and Neill Briggs remains," said Andrew Whitney, Director of Strategy and Corporate Development.

On that note, we'd like to add that in recent testing at the Hungaroring, the BAC Mono lapped the circuit in 1:55, 9.5 seconds faster than a Porsche 911 GT3, 7 seconds faster than a Ferrari Speciale and 4.5 seconds faster than a McLaren P1. Impressed? You should be.
