The difference between Audi A models and the S ones is quite small. So when the announcement that the S4 model will debut in Frankfurt came, we weren't in the least bit surprised.
German magazine Auto Zeitung stated in a recent report that the all-new S4 will bow its head in sedan and wagon format at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Only minor cosmetic changes are expected, things like bigger wheels, aluminum mirrors, and a new grille. The trademark quad exhaust system will also be installed.

The same publication states that S4 will use a turbocharged 3-liter V6 engine. However, we think they might have been confused by the TFSI badge. A previous story published by Car & Driver magazine is backed by an Audi USA official and says the old supercharged engine will be carried over.

That's the story we're sticking with, especially when Auto Zeitung's expected horsepower number, 354 PS, is identical to that of the SQ5 with the supercharged V6.

The rest of the powertrain will consist of a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system and a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox.

You have to admit that doesn't sound too bad, but the competition is fierce. For example, the new Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG packs a twin-turbo V6 and also relies on all its wheels to move. BMW doesn't have a direct competitor, but we've seen their 340i is a fantastic sprinter.

Audi's full potential will not be revealed until the arrival of the RS4, which will debut with a new twin-turbo V6 and should have at least 450 hp.
