The Audi Forum in Neckarsulm has just released six photos of a shiny gold Audi R8 V10 Plus sitting alongside the Gold Steering Wheel award, which it won at the beginning of November.
For a super sportscar that's designed to be more discreet than the average Ferrari and Lamborghini, this R8 looks like an eyesore. However, most of the people commenting on Facebook seem to enjoy it, and a few folks have shown chromed versions of the old car.

We know that many companies offer chrome paint, but this looks like a wrap. To paint a car in chrome, you need to do several layers of base coat followed by a few more of misted metallic particles and clear coat. So you end up with a project that requires a week to complete.

Chrome wrapping isn't simple either, as the vinyl is difficult to stretch evenly over complex shapes. However, we find it displeasing that the first gold 2016 R8 belongs to Audi.

The all-new model is held in high regard in Germany right now, as it received the title of Best Sportscar from Auto Bild this weekend. While the front end leaves something to be desired, all the performance is there.

In a post made earlier today, we showed you how the R8 thrashed two Mercedes-Benz models in a drag race.

If gold vinyl is not your thing, the R8 can be configured in a number of different ways. For example, Audi Individual paint can be ordered from €3,100 or €7,400 if it's matte. This particular unit seems to be equipped with optional 20-inch 10-spoke Y-design black wheels shod in 245/30 R20 front and 305/30 R20 rear tires. They cost €1,500, but considering the price of the car, we think that's cheap.

Editor's note: We expected Audi to invent a new type of gray, not gold chrome. Come on, guys, don't give the rappers what they want.
