Audi USA has just announced the 2016 Q3 will be priced from $33,700 when the upgraded and cosmetically refreshed SUV hits dealerships later this year. Those of you with a long enough memory might remember that when launched, the 2013 Q3 retailed for $32,500 as a 2.0T Premium Plus model. So why have they made it so much more expensive?
For starters, the 2016 Q3 is a facelift model that brings with it several cosmetic tweaks. These include new xenon plus headlights with LED daytime accents, 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the standard equipment seems to be more generous. The 2016 Q3 now features heated 12-way adjustable leather seats, a panoramic roof, a reversing camera, Alu-optic MMI controls and LED ambient lighting. You really could buy just the entry-level car.
The engine is the same one as before, a 2-liter TFSI turbo rated at 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed Tiptronic auto that can be matched to an optional quattro all-wheel drive system. The Q3 gets 20/29/23 mpg (city/highway/combined) with FWD and one less mile to the gallon on the highway if you opt for AWD.
Speaking of quattro, we have to mention that it will cost you $35,800 to get a Q3 with such a feature, plus another $925 for destination and handling charges.
The Prestige model comes with the same powertrain choices for either $38,600 or $40,700. The difference is in the amount of high-tech features. The Prestige trim now features full LED headlights and dynamic rear turn signals along with the S line exterior package and 19-inch wheels. A BOSE sound system with 14 speakers and a power tailgate with a programmable preset opening angle are also thrown in for good measure.
