Yesterday evening, Audi provided us with five photos of the A4 next to some oddly dressed fashion models in black and white dresses. To be honest, we disliked the idea at first because mixing fashion or movies with modern automobiles feels like product placement. However, Audi is backing something on the cutting edge: 3D printed clothes.
At the Audi stand at the Berlin Design Trade Show, SEEK, designer Anouk Wipprecht is presenting her take on the Audi A4's design language.
We dug a little deeper and found Anouk's work borders on cutting edge. Three major designs stand out, the first of which is the "Sensoric SMOKE DRESS".
It's a 3D printed creation that seems to float off the model and also throws out a smokescreen when you come near based on proximity sensors. Doesn't that sound like a shy person who's not crazy about parking or squeezing through narrow lanes?
Next up, we have the Robotic SPIDER DRESS. Again, the design is drafted out on the computer and recreated using a 3D printer, but this time the dress protects the wearer and supposedly attacks upon approach based on proximity and the stress level of the wearer.
And finally, we have the Projection MAP DRESS, which is the one we see in the photos with the Audi A4. It's edgy and puts on a great light show.
“Berlin for us is the German capital of the fashion scene and with SEEK the perfect place for interdisciplinary exchanges,” says Wayne Griffiths, Head of German Sales at AUDI AG.
