2016 Audi A4 Embraces the Pickup Treatment, Looks Like a German El Camino

Just when we thought we've seen it all, this rendering of a pickup Audi A4 showed up and we knew we had to share it with you guys.
While Audi is working had to apply the finishing touches on the 2017 S4 we spotted testing in the Alps earlier this month, designers simply can't get over the new A4.

We've seen the new Audi A4 in many guises coming from Pixel Land, including base-spec clothing with plastics all over the sedan's body. But we never thought the Ingolstadt-born sedan would ever receive a pickup interpretation as the one X-Tomi Design came up with.

But our question is: can a modern coupe pickup bring new something that would appeal customers? We think not, at least not as long as the crossover segment is living its climax at this moment.

Coming back to the Audi A4 pickup truck, we can't imagine it without Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. As far as the under-the-hood space is concerned, this fictional Audi El Camino- if we can call it that - would makes us of the top-shelf 3.0-liter TDI mill good for 272 horsepower and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft).

We also think the A4 pickup would make an engaging car when equipped with a petrol mill, and for some reason the 2.0-liter TFSI engine with 252 horsepower and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) comes to our mind.

Other than that, if such a car were to be built, it should be versatile enough the serve the whole family. Its bed looks big enough to accommodate daddy's fishing tools, but also mom's shopping bags.

Ther's one drawback, though: you'll have to find a way to take the kids with you, and that two-seat cabin doesn't make things easier in this respect. Sure, there's the bed we mentioned above, but who would put his or her kids in there to drop them off at school?
