2016 Alpina B7 Begins Tests Heavily Camouflaged

Now that BMW launched its new flagship with bells and whistles, it is time for its close partner, Alpina, to start working on a new B7 model as well. As it turns out, our spy photographers caught up with a prototype just yesterday, out testing in heavy camouflage.

We imagined that the Buchloe-based tuner would be careful to hide the new shapes from prying eyes, but we didn’t expect them to cover up almost the entire car. As for the differences compared to the BMW it’s based on, let’s take a closer look.

Up front, we can already notice that the engineers are testing a new aerodynamic front bumper air splitter, one that will most likely be similar to what we’ve seen before. The Alpina lettering will surely be present.

Other modifications include a new boot lid round the back that would enhance the downforce at higher speeds and the inclusion of the turbine-style wheels even though we can’t see them in these photos.

Under the bonnet, chances are we’ll be seeing the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 as on the previous model, still making 540 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. That might seem like a disappointment, but this will be the closest to an M7 model as possible since the M division’s boss denied rumors about the company working on such a car.

The driveline will be changed accordingly, the suspension setup being altered by Alpina as well, alongside the transmission and the engine. The problem will be making sure they get more luxury inside since the new 7 Series made serious improvements in this regard. However, if there's anyone capable of doing so, it's Alpina and we can't wait to see what they come up with.
