In 2008, Alfa Romeo had introduced the MiTo. After it had been updated once in 2013, the MiTo got updated a second time for 2016. After it made its debut earlier this year in Geneva, the new and improved MiTo is now available across the Old Continent, priced from €15,700 in Germany and £12,960 in the United Kingdom.
The biggest improvement comes in the looks department. Thanks to the updated headlight graphics, including the dark-finish bezels, the front lighting system now has a bit of Alfa Romeo 4C to it. The sportier front grille, redesigned rear bumper, and a handful of new exterior colors complete the model year 2016 makeover. Minor updates were operated inside as well, where the MiTo transcends its Fiat origins, though it can't shake them off.

Once you hop inside the cabin, you’ll be greeted by upgraded seat upholsteries, a sportier finish on the center console, dashboard, and door cards, as well as Uconnect Live services for the infotainment system. Speaking of which, the newest version of the Fiat Chrysler Uconnect 5-inch multimedia system integrates DAB digital radio, as well as satellite navigation.

Depending on region, there are up to four models to choose from. First, there’s the entry-level MiTo, then there’s the Super, the Speciale, and the Veloce. The latter has been given the Veloce handle for a simple reason. Even though it’s essentially the same car as yesteryear’s MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde, the advent of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio convinced the Italian automaker to name it something else, something with a sporty ring to it.

In the oily bits department, the 2016 Alfa Romeo MiTo subcompact hatchback is available with a selection of turbocharged petrol and turbo diesel engines. The range starts with a 78 horsepower 1.4-liter and continues with an 875 cc TwinAir with 105 horsepower on tap. Further up the line, we have the 1.4 MultiAir 140 that can be matched with the Alfa TCT automatic transmission.

As for the range-topping powerplant, a 170 hp variant of the 1.4 MultiAir will have to suffice. On the turbo diesel front, the 1.3-liter JTDM-2 powerplant is available with 95 horsepower on tap and CO2 emissions of 89 grams/km.
