2016 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spied Up-Close and Personal in Italy

When it first came out in 2010, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta was unofficially called one of the most beautiful cars on the market. Looking at the current mode, you have to imagine the name must have had some bearing in this.

The outgoing Giulietta is anything but bad looking, but it's exactly the design masterpiece everyone is constantly expecting from Alfa Romeo. While the rear did have some interesting touches with those nice, comma-shaped taillights, the front was rather dull and predictable.

The fact the Quadrifoglio Verde version wasn't even close to offering the visceral experience most of us were expecting - actually, it wasn't even worthy of the term "hot-hatch" - didn't help with Giulietta's overall reception so sales were predictably weak.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is due for a facelift soon, that's no secret, but by the looks of these camouflaged test vehicles, we shouldn't get our hopes too high.

The outside changes are few and discreet and focus mainly on the front bumper. The camouflage applied to parts of the light clusters also mean some minor modification could occur over there as well, but their overall shape remains the same.

On the other hand, our spy photographers tell us the interior was wearing just as much camouflage as on the outside, which means this could be one of those technology-driven facelifts. Not that the Giulietta wasn't in desperate need of one of these too.

The new Uconnect infotainment system that's rapidly spreading all over the FCA range will surely make its way onto the Giulietta as well, but other than that, what will this facelift change on the inside is anybody's guess.

Even though our enthusiasm towards this facelift is rather low, you can't say the same about the people at Alfa Romeo. When you feel the need to camouflage even the exhaust tip, you might want to stop and wonder if maybe you haven't gone too far.
