Before you wonder why the photograph above is so overexposed, oversaturated and grainy, you should know that Acura provided a very dark, almost useless teaser picture of the 2016 ILX. With that detail out of the way, the Japanese automaker is gearing up for the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
Acura wants to raise the stakes of the entry-premium sedan segment yet again with this model by claiming that you're in for a "substantially new 2016 ILX." But what does the manufacturer actually referring to with these choice of words? There aren't many specific details about operated upgrades, but we do know a few things you should expect from the ILX.
As such, the Honda Civic-based compact executive sedan from Acura has been developed for sharper performance focus, all while delivering a greater set of high-value comfort and convenience features, as well as upgraded passive and active safety features.
Acura promised further updates that include "a potent new powertrain, more forceful, sporty exterior styling and substantially upgraded interior design." Don't know about you, but the new powertrain option sounds more like an existing one that has been reworked to deliver more of everything, while the sporty exterior styling and upgraded interior are a must for a premium model's mid-cycle refresh.
Slated to be unveiled on November 20th, the 2016 Acura ILX's biggest surprise might come in a more potent variant of the base 2-liter four-cylinder mill, which currently develops 150 horsepower and 140 lb-ft (190 Nm) of torque. Honda executive VP John Mendel previously hinted that this variant feels a bit "underpowered," so you get why we're betting our two coins on a slight power hike from the 2016 ILX.
