When it comes to compact luxury crossover SUVs, a good way to go is the Honda CR-V. But if that model doesn’t float your premium boat, then you should be considering the 2016 Acura RDX.
In a nutshell, both the CR-V and RDX share much of the mechanical components and oily bits. Both are assembled by the Japanese manufacturer in Easy Liberty, Ohio, and both are offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission for effortless shifting duties.
But the 2016 Acura RDX has that special something over its Honda-labeled counterpart and gives you a lot more than the previous model year for a mere $175 bump in its sticker price. Available from $35,270, the 2016 RDX is slated to arrive at US dealers tomorrow.
As ever, the only engine option is a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 motor with 6 more horsepower and 1 extra lb-ft over its previous iteration. In total, the vee-six churns out a meaty 279 HP and 252 lb-ft (341 Nm) of twist. Customers are offered a choice between two-wheel and all-wheel drive, depending on their preference in terms of fuel economy and off-road capability.
The exterior aesthetics were chiseled just a wee bit as well, with Jewel Eye LED headlights being at the top of the most important visual updates list. On the driving dynamics front, active front and rear engine mounts, an updated steering system and reworked suspension are the name of the game.
As for improvements brought to the cabin, silver and black trim and a plethora of previously not standard features are what differentiates the 2016 Acura RDX from its popular forerunner.
