It might be only a facelift, but the 2016 Acura ILX is making no compromises in terms of safety.

We're not the ones telling this, as the sedan was tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standard and was awarded five stars overall.

The 2016 ILX has to thank the AcuraWatch safety suite for that. The set includes features like Collision Mitigation Braking System (including Forward Collision Warning), Road Departure Mitigation, a Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist System, including pedestrian sensing.

The above systems are not out of this world, as other carmakers are offering them on their models, but it's their teamwork that raises the safety standard on the car they equip.

But it's not all down to electronics and gizmos. The Acura ILX's body structure uses a network of connected structural pieces that allow crash energy to be distributed in an even manner throughout the front of the vehicle.

As a result, frontal collisions are tempered way better than before, which translates into more safety for the driver and the other occupants.

“Acura has always been an industry leader in safety performance and we are proud the entire Acura sedan model line received the top safety ratings from NHTSA," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager, Acura Division.

You can buy Acura's offering in the entry-level luxury sedan segment for a starting sticker of $27,900, but this doesn't include tax, license, registration, and a $920 destination charge.
