Just two weeks since it was announced, the veil was took off the 2015.5 Volvo V60 Cross Country at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The tougher sibling of the V60 carries a rather too high price of $41,000.
Whereas in Europe you’re offered with an all-turbo diesel engine lineup (Drive-E D3 and Drive-E D4 FWD and D4 AWD), North America gets only one powertrain option. The Swedes decided to offer the V60 Cross Country with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo mill that produces 250 hp and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm).
That motor may be older than the Drive-E crop, but those figures are good on paper. When you consider all-wheel drive and a silky smooth six-speed automatic are offered as standard, the steep price and old engine don’t sound that bad anymore.
Even if you don’t need the extra 2.6 inches (65 mm) of ride height, front & rear skid plates and such, the Cross Country is far more enticing to look at than the normal V60 thanks to its black plastic cladding and 18-inch or 19-inch wheels with soft-road ready rubber. The cabin design also boasts with a few Volvo Cross Country trademarks such as buttery black leather-wrapped seats beautified by brown stitching.
In terms of equipment, don’t expect the 2015.5 Volvo V60 Cross Country to be on par with the all-new 2015 Volvo XC90. Still, the softroading wagon does have a few modern tech features. Just to highlight the most important of them all, these are Sensus Connect multimedia system, Volvo On Call telematics and sat nav. All these come as standard, naturally. It would’ve been overkill to pay more than $41k.
