2015 VW Touareg Hybrid, V8 TDI and Cayenne S Diesel Being Discontinued in Europe

With just a few months before the Euro 6 regulations come into effect, we are already saying goodbye to some cars we rather like because they're not clean enough. Today, we've learned that three SUVs produced by the Volkswagen Group will have to be be put out to pasture, even though they were updated for 2015.

From Volkswagen, we have two versions of the 2015 Touareg which don't meet the new regulations enforced by the European Union. The first is the Touareg Hybrid, one of only a few hybrid models ever built by VW. It combines a supercharged V8 with an electric engine and generates 380 horsepower. It was significantly upgraded recently and sold as a singular trim level.

Despite emissions of 193 grams per kilometer, which is only 12 more than the standard V6 TDI, it has already been withdrawn from the range in Germany.

The V8 TDI version of the 2015 Touareg has also been discontinued from European markets. This 4.2-liter turbocharger leviathan was a slow seller, but we loved the sheer grunt it produced. In a recent drag race, this 2-ton monster almost kept up with the nimble Golf R hot hatch.

Porsche will also suffer losses, as the Cayenne S Diesel has the same issues. It only complies with Euro 5 regulations and adapting it is not financially viable. At its heart, it has a 4.2-liter V8, which produces 385 PS. Its true calling card, however, is the fact that it delivers 850 Nm of torque (627 lb-ft), which not even the Turbo S can match.

That leaves the Cayenne with only one diesel engine, the 262 PS 3-liter V6 base model. It's not a real problem, but the V8 turbodiesel just defines large, premium SUVs much better.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
