After months of speculation and teasing ended in a glamorous fashion with a Torslanda plant debut event, the new 2015 Volvo XC90 recently received pricing for the European area. No beating around the bush then, so here's Johnny - you'll have to pay €59,472 for the most basic model available.
That's the D5 AWD Kinetic trim level, which boasts with all-wheel drive, a 2-liter four-cylinder Drive-E turbo diesel with 224 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque on tap, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, together with lots of standard equipment for good measure. In this basic configuration, the second-generation Volvo XC90 can seat seven (2+3+2), weighs 2,030 kilos and can swallow up 671 liters of luggage (310 liters with the third row of seats up).

Best thing of all? This powertrain will drink just 7.8 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers driven in the city, 4.7 outside and 5.8 liters combined. Despite the weight, size and engine on offer, Volvo says the Euro 6-compliant Volvo XC90 D5 AWD Kinetic produces just 152 grams of CO2 / km. If you want more kit thrown in as standard, the D5 AWD Momentum and range-topping Inscription can be had for €64,376 or €70,412, respectively. So you prefer a gasoline mill over the annoying clutter of a turbo diesel motor?

The 2015 Volvo XC90 can do that as well. The range starts with the T6 AWD Momentum (€70,634) and is topping with the T6 AWD Inscription (€76,910). All T6 models employ the same eight-speed auto, but this time around they're coupled to a 2-liter turbocharged and supercharged powerhouse rated at 321 ponies and 400 Nm of torque. Of course, the engine is Euro 6-compliant, producing 179 grams of CO2 / km and consuming 10.5 liters of petrol per 100 km in the city, 6 outside it and 7.7 on the combined cycle.

Our pick is the T8 Twin Engine with the R-Design appearance package

Rivaling the likes of the Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TSI Hybrid (€93,350) and Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid (€85,179), the 2015 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid is as far as you can go with the Swedish mid-size sport utility vehicle. Of course, you can have it in Momentum (€79,950) or Inscription (€83,459) flavor, but it would be such a shame not to kit it out with the super neat R-Design appearance package.

Aside from the sporty exterior and interior makeover, the T8 Twin Engine R-Design can deliver up to 400 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque thanks to the aforementioned T6 turbocharged and supercharged petrol powerplant and an 80 hp electric motor. This plug-in hybrid can drive up to 25 miles (40 clicks) in the city in pure EV mode. €83,459 also buys you a powertrain that emits just 64 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven and consumes an average of 2.7 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers... in theory, that is.

The order books are already open, while production of the new XC90 is slated to start early next year.
