To celebrate its founding year and the launch of the 2015 XC90, Volvo introduced the limited XC90 First Edition with sales kicking off earlier this week on Wednesday. With only 1,927 units being produced, we knew these models wouldn’t last long, and Volvo is reporting that its entire run of 2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition SUVs took just 47 hours to sell out.

With the XC90 obviously not available in dealerships, the First Edition models were only available via the Internet, marking a first for the automaker. Priced at $65,900 in the U.S. and £68,000 in the U.K., the 2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition will come loaded with plenty of features and unique, commemorative add-ons. About the only option the First Editions don’t get is Volvo’s new 400-hp Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain.

For starters, all of the First Edition XC90s come exclusively in Onyx Black exterior paint and eight-spoke, 21-inch wheels. Inside, each SUV gets beige nappa leather seats, dark leather on the instrument panel and rich walnut wood inlays throughout the cabin. Front occupants get heated and cooled seats, while the second-row outboard passengers have heated seats, and everyone gets to enjoy the 1,400-watt, 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world premiere last week. The first buyers signed up for their favorite number in milliseconds. The rapid response confirms that the XC90 is a truly iconic car model. The First Edition will be a collector’s item in the future,” said Alain Visser, Volvo Car Group’s senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer service.

The significance of the 1,927 vehicles is that Volvo was founded in 1927, and aside from the overall styling, each of the XC90 First Edition models will be recognizable with serialized door sill plates and special touches like liftgate badge and leather-wrapped key fob.
