Volvos used to be simple bricks on wheels, great for large families that had a lot of stuff to carry around. But just like Jeep, this brand has moved on from its simplistic upbringing to develop into a hip, modern vehicle for up-and-coming executives.
The 2015 Volvo V60 is a much bigger deal than you'd think. As Consumer Reports points out in a recent video report, the car is actually a return of the Volvo wagon to America. An updated model with cosmetic changes, the 2015MY also comes with Volvo's brand new Drive-E family of engines, which promise superior economy and substantially reduced CO2 emissions.

Unlike models sold elsewhere, the US-sped V60 only gets the T5 and T6 engines. The Drive-E 2-liter Consumer Reports talks about is actually only available with FWD, AWD models still packing the old mill.

Volvos used to be square and boring. But the 2015 V60 is different. Not only is it curvy, but the T5 FWD Drive-E model is easy on gas. 240 horsepower and 37 mph just shouldn't be possible, but it is!

The base mode costs from $35,000 and thanks to that new engine we talked about takes zero to 60 in 6.1 seconds. If you want the 2015 V60 with all wheel drive, that model will set you back $36,800 and it’s fitted with the 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine, making 250 horsepower.

If you feel that would be short on power, Volvo can also sell you a $44,300.00 T6 AMWD R-Design model with 325 hp from a 3-liter engine. That will get you to Whole Foods and back before the organic tomatoes go bad!

The V60 will not take up too much of Audi or BMW's market share in executive-style estates, but there are more than a few Volvo fans still in America and hopefully some of them will trade out of their SUVs and into this Swedish box of reasonableness.
