2015 Volkswagen Snowareg Thinks It's Ken Block's RaptorTRAX

Everybody knows that Ken Block likes to drive a custom Ford F-150 Raptor with four tracks instead of wheels and some might even remember that it's name is RaptorTRAX. But very few people know that Volkswagen Sweden also built a tracked SUV based on the Touareg way back in 2013.

That means the Volkswagen Snowareg has been bringing snowy joy to the world about two years, all the while wearing bright Red Bull livery. So should we ignore it like some carrots sitting next to a delicious slice of pizza? No, especially since changes were made this year.

Volkswagen Sweden has just released a new video where the tracked SUV is put through its paces. But upon closer inspection, this is actually a completely new car.

The front bumper, taillights, headlights and a few other details snow we're dealing with the facelifted Touareg. To make the most of the extra traction, this beast continues to be powered by a 4.2-liter TDI V8 engine, which is the biggest one in the range and produces a respectable 340 horsepower.

The tracks are made by a company called Mattrack. They're about 18 inches wide, so about as much as a regular alloy wheel would be tall. The downside to all this traction is that the top seed is limited to around 65 km/h (40 mph), above which the system would disintegrate.

The Red Bull Volkswagen Snowareg is pumping up fans for the arrival of Rally Sweden. Unlike in 2013, Volkswagen has already started this season with a huge bang – a perfect start to the season, with a one-two-three victory for the Volkswagen Motorsport team at the Rally Monte Carlo. Sweden, here we come!
