Last week, Volkswagen officially unveiled the eight generation of the Passat family, representing a huge improvement in terms of technology and design compared to its predecessor. 4-door sedan and 5-door estate models will become available in most European countries by the end of the year. However, this is only the beginning of a new mid-size family of cars from the German automaker.
Based on the same underpinnings, VW should launch an Alltrack 4x4 softroader based on the Passat estate. A replacement for the CC is also in the pipeline. Like the current model, it will be a four-door coupe, although some reports suggest a 5-door liftback sedan like the Audi A7 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

But what if we allow ourselves to dream outside the sober German box at something a bit more stylings , a true Passat coupe with only too doors! What would that look like? This rendering by X-Tomi design should give you a rough idea. It's based on the sedan, but comes with a chopped roof and tweaks to the rear pillar. Other than that, it looks the same.

Volkswagen will most likely never build such a car. Chopping the doors off a famous car like the Passat is probably unacceptable in the eyes of company officials, even though in America, Honda has done the same to its Accord sedan for ages.

X-Tomi has also created what he calls a Passat Shooting Brake rendering. Like the classic Shooting Brakes, it's got only two side doors, which also makes it extremely unlikely to enter production. But it does raise a very interesting question: Given the success of the CLS Shooting Brake, shouldn't Volkswagen CC also adopt an estate-like body?

Most of the people who bought the current Passat CC when it was new probably have large families now and would appreciate a big boot. Mercedes is also going to introduce a cheaper Shooting Brake next year, a version of the CLA, and it would be quite interesting to witness the rivalry between the two.
