After its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Passat Alltrack model is now available for order in Germany. The announcement made yesterday was accompanied by pricing details. Starting at €38,550, this is one of the most expensive VWs around, but it rewards with ample practicality.
The Alltrack is featured in the German configurator as a separate trim level. After selecting it, you are given a choice of four powertrains.

The cheapest starts at €38,550 as we've already mentioned and offers a 2-liter TDI rated at 150 PS. 340 Nm (250 lb-ft) of torque is delivered through the all-wheel drive system and a 6-speed manual gearbox. With CO2 emissions of just 129 grams and a fuel consumption figure of 4.9 l/100km, this is the most efficient Passat Alltrack.

Considering the Passat Alltrack is a big car, we think you'd be better off with the more powerful 2-liter TDI, making 190 PS and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. It's available as standard with a 6-speed DSG but demands you pay €43,200.

For those looking for extra performance, the twin-turbo 2.0 TDI is their best bet. It sends its 240 PS and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque out though the 7-speed DSG to ensure 0 to 100 takes only 6.4 seconds. It's a little over €47,000, so you could buy a real SUV for that kind of money.

The single petrol version of the Passat Alltrack is motivated by a 2.0 TSI with 220 PS, the same as on the GTI. Weirdly, it doesn't seem to have 4Motion and uses a 7-speed DSG. If you like the sound of a GTI engine in your crossover wagon, be prepared to spend €42,575.

What makes the 2015 Passat Alltrack different. Well, all its bumpers have been made more rugged to cope with stone damage. Th suspension has also been raised by a total of 27.5 mm which while the beast's underbelly is better shielded. Alltrack-specific wheels complete the package.
