2015 Toyota Tundra Goes All V8 - In Yo Face, Ozone Layer!

Many automakers out there are switching to greener, smaller, boosted engines to consume and emit less. We know Toyota is the biggest of them all, promoting its hybrid vehicles and wanting to make the fuel cell technology happen. Still, the company decided to leave at least one manly vehicle out there for us - the Toyota Tundra V8.

In fact, Toyota recently announced that the 2015 Tundra pickup will ditch the puny V6 and go all V8, laughing in the face of Ford which is going the forced-induction-V6 way. This means that the 4.6-liter i-Force V8 will be offered as standard, providing 310 bhp at 5,600 rpm and 327 lb-ft of torque at 3,400 rpm.

Need more? The optional 5.7-liter V8 will be on the list to deliver 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 lb-ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm. How’s that for some pulling power?

Both V8s feature an aluminum cylinder block and double overhead-cam heads with four valves per cylinder. In both, Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and Acoustic Control Induction System get credit for a broad torque curve and helping to optimize efficiency. Both V8s come teamed with with a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with 4WD optional.

Still not rough enough? Then you should get the 2015 Tundra TRD Pro Series (pictured above), which comes with the 5.7-liter by default, along with blacked out headlamps, special grille with oldschool “TOYOTA” badging, a beefed up suspension with extra travel as well as a TRD exhaust, skid plates, spoked rims and other unique details.

Ultimately, you can probably stick a TRD supercharger under that massive hood and go pull yourself a train. Or wait for that rumored 5-liter V8 Cummins diesel engine to come around on the option list in 2016, which is said to boast over 300 bhp and 500 lb-ft.
