It looks like Suzuki has finally understood that trying to tap into the adventure bike segment with a street machine I no use, so we are getting a better-equipped version of the small Strom for 2015. The story arrives via oliepeil, who apparently delved into the parts catalogue for 2015 only to find a most pleasant surprise in the form of a bike called DL650XA L5.
Now, the common V-Strom indeed has the DL650 codename, just like its bigger brother was named DL1000, and this obviously tells us about a new Strom arriving soon. However, the X and the A might introduce “extreme”, ”crossover” and “adventure”. Either way, it looks like this time, Suzuki is planning to offer more than names and decals, with the catalog displaying a tubeless wire spoked rim in the rear, a much more suitable trim for a bike that’s supposed to take on rougher off-road sections. So far, the V-Stroms are equipped with cast wheels which are great on asphalt, but which are definitely not going to live up to the task when leaving the neatly paved roads behind.

The other page screen-captured by the guys at oliepeil shows the major components of the bike’s front cowl, with two major features confirmed. The first one is that the 650 V-Strom will retain its dual headlight design, and will not follow into the steps of its bigger sibling which went for a combo, single-reflector headlight. This may hint on the fact that Suzuki is not planning a dramatic change for the model, even though we can definitely expect a revamping of the adventure version of the Strom.

The other thing is an all-new detail, at least for the DL650: the new XA version will receive a beak, just like the one which adorns the “face“ of the V-Strom 1000. It looks like these beaks are becoming quite fashionable once more, as they sort of tell of the adventure-ish nature of a bike, even though in certain cases, offroadability is rather questionable.

Wonder whether the V-Strom 1000 will also get an adventure makeover in the future. Until then however, the V-Strom 650XA is expected at either Intermot or EICMA. Stay tuned.
