Another good piece of news for the fans of powerful, naked bikes: the much-anticipated Suzuki GSR1000 is not only confirmed, but it will soon become available in the dealerships, most likely thin autumn. The respected German motorcycle magazine Motorrad has tested the bike and is running a full story in their print edition.
From France we have rumors that Suzuki has rented a huge floor area for the upcoming Intermot show in Cologne, this Autumn, roughly one month ahead of the 2014 EICMA in Milan. The naked version of Suzuki’s superbike was one of the things sorely missed by fans around the world, as many of them were not exactly thrilled to settle for the GSR750, be it a special edition and all. However, it looks like the wait is over, and they’ll be able to get their hands on this bike, rumored for over a year.
Still, Suzuki is rather secretive on the matter, with no info recently published on the official website. Most of the rumors however, point out to a bike built on the GSX-R1000 frame and thus sharing most of its features.
It is yet uncertain whether Suzuki will “dumb down” the liter-class Gixxer engine, as many other manufacturers do when it comes to the naked versions of their superbikes. If this recipe is maintained, we might receive a slightly less powerful Gixxer engine, with the top power and peak figures shifted lower on the rpm scale, for a more “civilian” type of use. That could account for a peak power of around 150 horsepower, given the 182-ish similar figure of the GSX-R1000.
As far as styling is concerned, the upcoming GSR1000 is maintaining the generic attire of the 2014 GSR750 Special Edition we brought you back in early April. Frankly, even though we’re not expecting too much technical updates from Suzuki for the next model year, the bike looks smashing, and coupling this with the blasting power and the interesting pricing options, we might have a bike which will sell quite well, especially as this niche is empty in Suzuki’s roster.
