Japanese imports are very popular in Australia, especially if they have hissing turbos and rally attributes. After years of boring special editions, Subaru has finally launched a brand new WRX, which is coming to the land down under very soon.
Prices have already been announced, with the 2015 model starting off at $38,990, which is rather cheap for what's on offer. We're talking about a brand new 2-liter turbo engine. Young Rex here has 197kW of power (270 hp) and 350Nm of torque. It can be configured with either a manual or an automatic. The stick takes 6 seconds to 100 km/h while the CVT has the rear-biased power distribution and artificially mimics eight speeds.
The Japanese say Australia is the third largest market for the WRX, after the US and Japan. The looks will definitely not win you over at first glance, but like all other Subaru's you'll probably love it in two more years.
The automatic model costs AU$2,000 extra and there's also a WRX Premium model costing AU$5,000, adding automatic headlights, a sunroof, leather trim, power driver’s seat and smart key with push-button start. Even the standard model is a pretty nice car as is, fitted with 17-inch alloys, seven airbags, reversing camera, sports front seats with red stitching and a small 4.3-inch LCD dash. You can also connect your phone via the USB port or wirelessly by Bluetooth. We struggle to think of a better equipped and faster German rival for the money.
