2015 SsangYong Rexton Gets Botoxed in South Korea

Since SsangYong got acquired by India-based Mahindra, the South Korean manufacturer got better and better at the way it designs its cars. One notable statement of how the brand turned around 180 degrees is the all-new Tivoli, slated to arrive in Europe this summer, but the recent nip & tuck job of the 2015 Rexton isn’t half-bad either.

Currently at its third generation, the SsangYong Rexton is underpinned by the platform of an old Mercedes M-Class (W163). The mid-size SUV is, as pointed out by IndianAutosBlog, mechanically similar to the pre-facelifted Rexton. As expected, the bulk of changes are solely of aesthetic nature.

Cosmetic enhancements include a shiny chrome-finished front grille flanked by clear high-intensity discharge headlights adorned with thin strips of LED daytime running lights. The rear fascia also gets redesigned taillight clusters, as well as little spoiler mounted high up on the tailgate's glass.

Once you step inside, you get the same plasticky cabin trim as ever, mildly offset by a new steering wheel design, heated and cooled seats front and rear, as well as LED lighting throughout the cabin. The center stack appears to have been visited by the facelift doctor’s needle too. As ever, there’s a limited choice of gray-haired powertrain options, but the good point to their age is that they've proven their ruggedness.

Available with a Borg Warner 4WD system with both high and low gear modes, the 7-seater can boast with amenities such as ESP, tire pressure monitoring, auto wipers and cruise control. A 2.0 turbo diesel, joined by a 2.7 oil burner and a 3.2 petrol are available, paired to a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed auto.
